Pride and Prejudice (BBC Mini-Series)

A truly wonderful adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel. I know, I know, "Lepus," you say "where is your zombie/splatter/horror/nekkid movie reviews?" Shock of all Shocks, I'm a bit of an anglo-phile and just LOVE period English pieces. And believe me, it doesn't get more "period" than this. It may be a bit off-putting for the average American TV-viewer, sometimes you do have to unpack some of the dialogue, but believe me, its worth it. The actress that plays Elizabeth Bennet just sparkles with charm that transcends some of the more heady language. Colin Firth should just get it over with and change his last name to "Darcy". I can't imagine anyone else playing him. Broody and pompous, but oh so cute. Ms. Austen would love this adaptation, I'm sure of it.

Street Kings

"Street Kings" or as I like to call it "Training Day II: WOAH, DUDE!" or "Point Break II: Agent Utah Takes LA" stars everyone (and I do mean everyone, Hugh Laurie WTF?)acting in Hollywood right now. This must have just started filming after the writers strike. Actors running down the streets, can't wait to be in ANY Movie. This must have been the first one on the lot. Blah, Blah, RENEGADE, LOOSE CANNON COP WHO DRIVES A REALLY NICE CAR FOR HIS SALARY. Blah, Blah, OMG HIS TEAM IS CORRUPT AND THEY ALL DRIVE REALLY NICE CARS, TOO HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE. Blah, Blah, OH HAI I'M DR.HOUSE, CHIEF INVESTIGATOR INTO YOUR BUSINESS I WILL BURY YOU HA HA. Blah Blah, OH NOES IT IS MORE COMPLICATO THAN I COULD EVER IMAGINE THE VEIN OF CORRUPTION GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP MAN THOSE ARE SOME NICE RIMS ON YOUR ESCALADE. Blah, Blah, HARRY CALLIGHAN (err, Keanu Reeves) UR A GOOD COP FOR REALZ COME BACK TO DA FORCE AND LOVE ME.
*fin*
The plot really was that predicatable. It wasn't terrible, but my dear sweet baby Keanu can't act his way out of a wet paper bag. Bless 'is wittle heart.

The Happiness of the Katakuris

I love Takashi Miike. If he directs it, there is a good chance that I'll watch it. The Happiness of the Katakuris is his odd take on the "Sound of Music type" family that try to open an inn on the slopes of Mt. Fuji. While I like the mix of claymation and live action, it was just kind of a "blah" movie. I'm sure there are tons of cultural inside jokes that I didn't get being American, and this probably the reason why it didn't jump out at me. I mean, don't get me wrong, its ok, but just not the "wow" that I usually expect from Takashi Miike. Meh, see it or don't.
