Bubba Ho-Tep
Words cannot describe the awesomeness of
this film. Bruce Campbell (pompus ass that he is) makes the perfect over-the-hill Elvis. Ossie Davis does a suprising comic turn and executes perfectly. There are some classic lines, including the obligatory "Hail To The King, Baby", that no Campbell film can or should be without. Check it out, its great.

The Cooler
This was a
great little movie. William H. Macy was the perfect casting choice for a man whos luck is so bad, it rubs of on others. Mario Bello plays the "hooker-with-the-heart-of-gold" archetype, and she doesn't do to bad of a job. Even though the part of Shelley was well acted by Alec Baldwin, I don't quite get the best supporting actor nomination. O well, I'm not on the academy. The only suprise was seeing Macy's naked sac (yes his NAKED SAC!!). Asside from that little stomach turner, it was great. Quite a sleeper, but this one should not be missed.

Pretty Dirty Things
A suprisingly unpretentious
foreign film that tells the story of immigrants (legal and otherwise) living in London and what people will do to stay there as citizens. The story was interesting and Audrey Tautou is always a cutie-pie (in that sort of Audrey Hepburn kind of way). Came into this movie with no expectations at all and walked away pleasently suprised. That is about all you can ask for with movies these days.

Scary Movie 3
I want my hour and fifteen minutes back!!! The only funny part was the clip of the aliens on the news. Thats it, the only funny part.
The Wayans clan should be drug out into the street and shot for this crap.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
A remake of a
classic fifties horror movie that has suprising kick. Its funny to see Donald Sutherland with a goofy haircut, but he playes his part quite well. Sutherland is a deputy health inspector with a major metropolitan city. Sutherland, his co-worker, his buddy (Jeff Goldblum) and wife are trying to escape these terrible pods that suck the life out of you while you sleep so they come to life and take the form of the human they have sucked (I never really got how that worked, even with the original). This motley cru comes apon a plan to destroy the pod-people before they get into the rest of the united states. It pretty well stuck with the original, but the man-faced dog was a little wierd. It was ok, and the final scene was pretty unerving. I'm kind of upset that I rented it and didn't see it on TV, but it was ok.

The Order
I'm a little biased about movies about mystical catholic orders/demons/
Heath Ledger. This wasn't terrible, but it was a little choppy. This movie reminded me of
The 13th Warrior, a really great movie (at least I liked it) about a warrior from Arabia taking on flesh eating berserkers with a bunch of Vikings. About an hour was taken out of the movie because of its graphic nature, but this footage went into the background of the berserkers. That is what I believe happened in
The Order. It was as if they were forced to cut out major parts of the movie and try to staple the rest together with implied comments and a few cheesy lines. Anyways, if you want to see Heath Ledger skulking around Rome, check it out. With the story line that was given to them, it could have been much better.

Session 9
Excellent. What a neat idea for a movie. It starts out a little slow, but these is the perfect example of what a psychological horror film should be. The setting was absolutely perfect. Four guys go into an old "nervous hospital (ha)" to remove asbestos. Then the strangeness begins. I was checking this movie out on the
IMDb site and a poster on the message board made an interesting point. There is really only one "real" character in the film. It makes sense, but I won't spoil the movie for you. Just go rent it. I know they have it at Wild and Wooley. On a side note, W&W are offering smiley-face covers. Its a big gorilla. I fully support this.

Cannibal Holocaust
Its interesting to watch
a movie that was filmed without the standard of not harming animals. Even the scene where a mans penis was cut off was not as shocking as actors chopping of the heads of monkeys and watching their bodies jerk. In this movie, they killed a giant snapping turtle, several spider monkeys, a pig, a rat and a crocadile. There was also lots of full frontal nudity. One thing about Italian zombie/cannibal movies from the late seventies-early eighties. The breasts and the penises are all tiny, but the nipples are freaking huge and pointed at all times. Thats about all I took away from this little movie. It wasn't terrible, but it started to get old.

Cold Creek Manor
Wow,
what a film...
"OMG, some crazy guy that used to own this house is trying to kill me and my family! Whatever shall I do??"
I find it so funny that no one suggested
buying a gun in this movie, including the killer. He thought it would be more fun to use an oversized hammer. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid and thats how you will feel if you see this movie.

The Big Empty
John Favreau has my admiration. I like his show on IFC "Dinner for Five" and I'm always glad to see him get work. He always plays the same role. The neurotic, smart-ass actor asked to do some sort of weird task. His role in
The Big Empty follows this formula, and like the other movies, is pretty entertaining. I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Darrell Hannah makes a suprisingly good bartender that looks after the hottie-McHottness of Ruthie, played by
Rachael Leigh Cooke ( yes, you see breast in this movie ). There are aliens, the desert and strange FBI agents (
Fraizer?), but this is a good little movie.
